Comin' at ya from Hamburg!

Hey family and friends. Wow, can't believe I'm down to my last ten
weeks on the mission. Does it even feel like it's been that long.  I
had great fun my first week in Hamburg. I'm having a lot of fun with
my comp, Elder Adams. He's played soccer at Utah Valley University
and we're able to talk about the academy a lot because he went to
the Academy prep school.  I will share some pics in this post that sho
you a bit of what Hamburg looks like.

The first full day was jam packed. That morning we visited a woman
that a missionary had talked to on a train on transfer day. She let us
in and we had a super discussion about, well, everything. She was
asking all the right questions like, where does the Book of Mormon
come from? Why does God let wars and unrest happen?  She was
super nice and invited us to come back on Sunday to share our message
with her friend, too. We also met a woman and her kids on the street
and made an appointment with them for next week. Then another
woman was on the phone but stopped us and asked if we were Latter-day
Saints. She was a baptized in Ghana but didn't know the church was
here in Germany. But she has four kids and she wants to come to church
and have us over!

On Mondays and Friday's there's family home evening. An hour before
they start, we hold a regular appointment we call Persian Pals for all
Persian speakers with our Persian speaking members. Two weeks ago,
Elder Adams gave a card to a kid in the train station. He called a few
days later. His name is Jafar and is from Afghanistan. He's such a
cool guy and comes faithfully every Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. He
has a deep understanding of everything. He told us on Saturday that he
has noticed a positive change in his life since coming to church and
feels happier. Super cool. He's been here for about two years already
but still working on residency so we need to do a little work on that
before he gets baptized.

This past weekend was stake conference here in Hamburg. President
Fingerle was coming so he asked to come with us on an appointment. We
took him to an appointment with a family where the wife was a member
from Peru and the husband was a German who didn't believe in God. It
was interesting because Elder Adams had never met with them so it was
pretty much like three random guys coming over. At the
beginning it was interesting but by the end, the husband really opened
up and invited us to come back.

They reorganized the stake presidency this past weekend. Elder Dyches
from the area presidency was there to do that. He was a jokester but
spoke well and everybody loved him. He had gone on his mission to
Germany back in the day but spoke in English so that was the first
time I've seen a translator up there next to the speaker in a meeting.
Not going to lie, the Sunday meeting was a zoo. It was so loud. Sunday
we went back to that woman's home and met with here and her friend.
They had many questions about what life in the church is like. It was
tough to get the restoration story in like we wanted to. Sunday
evening, we went to Elder Adam's grandma's house and she made
schnitzel. She's from here. She's super cool and we had a good time.
Elder Adams got permission to visit her every Sunday.

The zone leader life is busier with more administrative work. Lots of
phone calls and planning. What makes things a bit more complicated is
that all three sister companionships are training and the trainers
are all in the mission only a few months. We have to work hard to help
them all. I see at least two Ferraris a day. :)

Talk to you next week!

Elder Tanner Germann
