Week of exchanges

Hey everyone, I'm typing this up riding shotgun home to Hamburg from
Berlin. We just went on exchange (where we trade companions for a short
time) with the APs and we're driving this car west for the Heide missionaries who
will be getting it. This past week was pretty fun. I had to buy new tennis shoes
Monday. I brought my senior season cross country shoes on the mission and they
almost lasted 'til the end but two holes in the soles and two sore feet
finally convinced me that I needed something new.

We had good lessons with Jafar this week on Monday and Wednesday at
the "Persian Pals" thing the missionaries hold before family home
evening/institute with the Persian speaking members. We talked about
repentance and he seems to have a really good grasp on the concept. He
told us that ever since he's started coming to church he feels happier
and he feels like he sees more of a purpose in life.

We exchanged with our district leader this past week. Well I
was with the district leader and Elder Adams was with his companion. We
did lots of contacting. We made a couple of appointments with the
people that we wanted to make contact with. That evening, we went and
played volleyball with some members.  Here we are in the gym as they
prepared for an upcoming dance.

Wednesday morning we exchanged back and on the way home for lunch we
had some really good conversations. We talked to this one lady from
Ireland who did not want to talk to us at all but after a good conversation,
she's meeting with us this coming week.

Thursday we had district meeting and then afterwards we had two
interesting appointments. One of them was with an American who the
missionaries last transfer coincidentally ran into trying to find his
in-laws who are on the ward list. The in-laws are now in different
churches but this guy has a solid desire to learn more. Unfortunately his
view of the church is not positive but after he talked to us he said he
really likes the vibe he gets from us and is excited to meet with us
every Wednesday. The other appointment was with a woman and her
daughter. The woman is a bit obsessed with Judaism, though she's a
Christian, which really confuses her understanding of the Bible. We
had to explain the Bible to her. Too many people lately have told me
that Mormons are crazy for living all of the commandments and that
they're not necessary.  Here was the district at the train station--nice
name, huh?

Friday we had a service project at a member's house putting up two-by-fours, drilling them into the concrete wall, and drilling panels onto
these beams to make a new wall. Apparently, the couple inches of spacebetween the walls prevents mold. They fed us green cabbage, a heartynorth German meal. The rest of the day we were in meetings. We metwith our Ward Mission Leader and then the sister training leader, and then the district leaders with the sister training leader. The point of the last two meetings was to figure out zone goals, what we want the district leaders to teach in district meetings, and how we can best help all of the new sisters.

Saturday we played soccer and went to Tim's birthday party at the
church. He's a young single adult who just submitted his papers to
serve a mission before he turned 26 this week. We met a bunch of less-active members there.

Sunday's church meetings went alright and then we had a dinner
appointment with the bishop's family. We went and gave a Book of
Mormon to a Turkish woman we met the day before and then went to Elder Adam's grandmothers.

Looking forward to a busy week. We have another exchange later this
week. Take care.

Elder Tanner Germann
